What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture started in China as an ancient healing technique dating back over 5,000 years. It involves inserting fine, sterile needles into the skin at specific points to stimulate energy flow and restore the body’s natural balance relieving pain and inflammation.

Scientific research in Western Medicine has shown that acupuncture is effective in relieving pain in muscles and joints. It is one of the many skills employed within physiotherapy as part of an integrated approach to treatment. Acupuncture may be used on its own or as part of a treatment involving advice, exercises and manual hands on therapy.
